Miriama Roa was of Maniapoto (King Country – Te Rohe Potae) and Tuwharetoa (Taupo) descent. Roa Carvings emerged from the need to establish a platform from which to present the work of our first artist, Keith, Miriama’s son.

His work speaks of his personal life experience and he shares this with us by offering his interpretation of each sculpture.

The wairua (spirituality) of Keith’s art work reflects his Maori and European ancestry which is evident in both our sculpture and pendant galleries. Keith enjoys the ability to translate his life into art but is a very reserved person who likes to retain his privacy.

The philosophy of Roa Carvings is ‘Only by giving to life, does one receive’. We offer emerging New Zealand artists the opportunity to showcase their art through Roa Carvings. In line with the concept of our business we invite artists whose work is original and innovative to contact us to discuss how we can assist.

As an extension of our community based philosophy, Roa Carvings is proudly supporting Starship Foundation www.starship.org.nz/foundation and NZ Police Blue Light iniative in support of youth www.bluelight.co.nz We donate 1% of our monthly turnover to each of these organisations and each year we gift a Roa artwork creation to Starship Foundation for auction at one of their fundraising events.

We welcome your feedback and encourage you to contact us with any comments you wish to make. We hope you enjoy the Roa artwork creations and invite you to join us on our journey.

Kind regards
Sandra Willis, Managing Director
