Strength - Ihi
 

The patu carved from New Zealand pounamu sits on a goat horn wrapped and bound with hemp to Kaiawa river stone which sits on a hemp base. Strength of family is reflected by the entwined koru carved on the river stone and by the patu above.

 
Kaiawa – Food from rivers and streams.

 

Koru – Symbolises the unfurled sliver fern leaf, depicting new beginnings, growth and harmony. It represents nurturing and when entwined with others, embodies the strength and purity of loving family relationships.

 

Patu/Waihaka – Club, symbolising the facing and overcoming of life’s challenges and difficulties.
