The maripi (knife) handle is a double sided taniwha with a paua eye, carved from New Zealand jade. The blade is carved from New Zealand pounamu with pounamu beads around the top. It sits with elegance and style on a pounamu mount on Kaiawa river stone carved with entwined koru. The maripi is removable.

Kaiawa – Food from rivers and streams.

Koru – Symbolises the unfurled sliver fern leaf, depicting new beginnings, growth and harmony. It represents nurturing and when entwined with others, embodies the strength and purity of loving family relationships.
