Emerging From Turmoil - Puta Mai Ra Kōrawa
The taniwha carved from New Zealand pounamu sits on a pounamu base finished with woven natural flax. The “broken” pounamu base with uneven edges symbolises the emergence from turmoil with the taniwha shown forging ahead.
Taniwha – Mythical creature said to live in the oceans and inland waters of New Zealand. It represents protector and guardian of kinsmen and family.
