The taniwha carved from New Zealand pounamu is bound to deer horn with woven natural flax. The back of the deer horn is carved with a face inset with pounamu eyes and together are mounted on a pounamu base. The protection of the taniwha is afforded to all cultures.
Taniwha – Mythical creature said to live in the oceans and inland waters of New Zealand. It represents protector and guardian of kinsmen and family.
