Bonding of Cultures -Here o Tikanga Whakaaro

The style of the maripi (knife) carved from New Zealand pounamu reflects the European influence in the relationship and is in unity with Maori as shown by the connection to the stand which is made from Kaiawa river stone carved with a tuatara. Paua shell mounts support the maripi which is removable.

Kaiawa – Food from rivers and streams

Tuatara – Reptile native to New Zealand, meaning ‘peaks on the back’.
