Two patu of different size and shape carved from New Zealand jade, symbolise the dynamics of separate family relationships. Deer antlers representing the parent, support the patu with leather braided straps finished with goat fur. The antlers are anchored with hemp to Kaiawa river stone carved with entwined koru. The patu are removable.

 
Kaiawa – Food from rivers and streams.

 

Koru – Symbolises the unfurled sliver fern leaf, depicting new beginnings, growth and harmony. It represents nurturing and when entwined with others, embodies the strength and purity of loving family relationships.

 

Patu/Waihaka – Club, symbolising the facing and overcoming of life’s challenges and difficulties.
