One People Moving Forward - Kotahitangata Whakamua

The maripi (knife) carved from New Zealand pounamu with pounamu beads around the handle is supported by copper pins and sits on a deer antler. Facing the same direction, the strength binding the cultures is reflected by the antler bound with hemp to Kaiawa river stone. The stone is carved with entwined koru and sits on a hemp base.

Kaiawa – Food from rivers and streams.

Koru – Symbolises the unfurled sliver fern leaf, depicting new beginnings, growth and harmony. It represents nurturing and when entwined with others, embodies the strength and purity of loving family relationships.
