Settlement - Tau
 

The patu carved from New Zealand jade has a braided flax cord through the handle and sits on a stand of Kaiawa river stone with a hemp base. The stone is carved with entwined koru. The antler is bound to the river stone with hemp that together with the patu is comfortable & settled yet facing forward.

 
Kaiawa – Food from rivers and streams.

 

Koru – Symbolises the unfurled sliver fern leaf, depicting new beginnings, growth and harmony. It represents nurturing and when entwined with others, embodies the strength and purity of loving family relationships.

 

Patu/Waihaka – Club, symbolising the facing and overcoming of life’s challenges and difficulties.
